FO = (Finally) Dad's Moss Stitch Scarf

Finally, finally the scarf is DONE!!! And it's almost 70 inches long! This was technically began way at the beginning of my blog, so February 2006! (Although the original scarf was frogged this past January and a new one cast on in February). This was my dad's Christmas present for the past 2 Christmases... and now it will be his Father's Day present.

The yarn was awesome to work with, and I totally see why knitters consider Malabrigo to be "crack" yarn. So soft and smooth like butter, so plesant to knit with! (And it smells good to boot!)

To be honest, I've been feeling some finishitis and even though this project is done, I'm still feeling like I have to finish everything quickly. I think mostly because there are so many other projects that I'd like to begin (or that I have to begin, because they are for other people).



My queue in Ravelry is over 100 items long!! Things like This hat, and the February Lady Sweater are calling out to me! I also want to knit up some more sock yarn.. but am so trying to stick to one sock at a time.

Today, even though I desperately want to spin, I'm going to try to finish the first of my Monkey's... and try not to cast on the hat. We'll see how that goes. Cross your fingers for me that I can resist the call to cast on!

The Chop

Yesterday I got a new do. I love, love, love it to death! (It looks a little different in the photo, since it was taken after a long day at work... but you get the idea).

Only Slight Progress

Well, this past week just flew by! Between working both jobs and not having a weekend due to other activities there has been very little time to knit. Mainly just a few rows here and there at lunchtime.

Dad's scarf is coming along slowly. I've been trying to work on that when husband is playing Oblivion on the 360, but I've been so tired when I get home that I've only managed to add an inch this week.

The Seaside socks are coming along slowly. These are what I work on during lunch, but with only 30 minutes... well, progress is also slow. This week I'm expecting more of the same as we prepare for another meeting. Hopefully I can play some catch up on the car ride to Tampa!

Well, I'm off to finish some laundry so husband can have some clean clothes for tomorrow! (Myself too!) Cross your fingers that I'll be able to get gas tomorrow sometime! Husband said it's pretty difficult now to get my gas tank open, but that it does open.

We'll see if I'm able to fill up!

Show and Tell

I have pictures! I do! I just have no way to get those pictures onto the blog. So for now, you'll just have to take my word that things are progressing and that one day soon there will be a huge blog post with pictures. Lots and lots of pictures!

The trip to Orlando was fairly quick and painless. The meeting went smoothly and I got to see my new "niece" (Reallly she's my second cousin, but Filipino's can be very lax about what extended family members should really be called). She being the one who the Steeler's Baby Blanket was knit for. I also got to hang out with my best friend and see him preform at a local coffee shop. Fun times!

The second Jaywalker is onto the foot... hopefully should be done in the next few days. My dad's scarf is progressing to near three feet long and I'm almost done with the first skein of Malabrigo. My goal is to finish the first skein before the week is up.

The shawls are still in a holding pattern. Icarus, because I can flind my flippin chart and the Feather and Fan because I need to spin some more for it.

And speaking of spinning!! I have some Fawn Alpaca on the bobbin at the moment, that I'm aiming for a two-ply laceweight. I'm taking it really slowly and trying not to mess it all up. I've found that spinning from the fold is a wonderful thing with Alpaca.

Also before I left my order from Hello Yarn came in! A total of 2 lbs 8oz of fibery goodness for my shawl! It's lovely stuff that I just want to roll in! It's also seriously making me want another wheel so I can have a few projects on the bobbins. (I'm thinking of a Minstrel, but shhh don't mention it to my husband!)

Outage

This morning I was all set to finish up some projects at work (yes, sometimes at work I actually do work, shocking I know). I came in and was motivated and ready. Then not fifteen minutes after I arrived and got my computer up and running the power went out.

I usually bring socks to work, because you know, they're small and portable. But I'm done with the heel of the current sock-in-progress and have to pick up the gussets, not something I like to do, much less at work during my breaks. I wasn't going to bring anything but at the last second I grabbed my dad's scarf on the way out this morning. *Whew* Good thing too.

We didn't have power for just over an hour! Yay! So I sat in the dark and knit on the scarf, praying that the power would be out for a few hours and they would send us home. (Boy would that have made my weekend!) But the power is back on now, and we didn't get sent home.

I realized, once the power was back, that I messed up a row of moss stitch in the dark. Luckily, it's only 2 or 3 rows down, so I should be able to fix it quickly during lunch and continue on my merry way.

So my motivation for work was totally screwed. I just want to go home, take a nap for a few hours and then work on knitting.

I've been pleasantly surprised that my motivation has stayed strong (and mostly monogamous) while working on my Spiral Eyelet socks. I've been extremely content knitting them, and feel like I've made excellent time knitting. (That may not be true, but it feels like I'm knitting very quickly). The contentment has carried over to the scarf as well, so that has been seeing a few inches every few days. Maybe when the socks are done the determination will carry over to Icarus... I can only hope!

MMMMmmmalabrigo!

Sorry for skipping this yesterday. I forgot to take pictures during the day and then I was just too lazy to go and take pictures of the scarf once I realized that I forgot.

(Side Note: It's a seriously crappy day today. Well, a crappy day to be anywhere but at home. It's rainny, really windy, dark and just a great day to be home, on the couch, watching movies and knitting. Unfortunately, I didn't get to stay home. I'm hoping it doesn't start to really storm - think lots of thunder, hail and tornado warnings - until I get home. Uubu tends to freak with thunder and I may come home to a lake in the front room if it starts thundering before someone gets home from work.)

The yarn for dad's new scarf came while I was sick... and oh what healing powers!! I cast on a basic moss stitch scarf and knit through two movies (Hot Fuzz and Die Hard 3). I'm about 8-9 inches in. Maybe this year dad will get his three-years-in-the-making Christmas present.

Now, I am really envious of my friend A. who is knitting her Icarus out of laceweight Malabrigo. If I would have known how luscious this stuff is, I probably would have knit mine out of it as well. ... Maybe the next lace project.
